In the Margins Book Awards

Congratulations to Mr. Sergio Troncoso for being named one of the 10 Top Titles for the In the Margins  (ITM) Book Awards! Mr. Troncoso's book, Nobody's Pilgrims, tells of a suspenseful trip three teens take across the United States as they seek to avoid trouble at the hands of a drug cartel. Pick up a copy of the book here at the library and celebrate with us!

Black Leaders discuss planning the March on Washington

Live on TV in 1963, James Farmer, James Forman, Whitney Young, Martin Luther King and Roy Wilkins discuss the March on Washington and promoting civil rights for Black Americans. "It is a tension between justice and injustice," Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. says around 11:00 minutes.

You missed it! Horror Book Club

 

Today we had the first meeting of the Horror Book Club! There was trivia, movies, and a heated discussion about which movie monsters were the scariest. If you missed it, that's OK! We'll be meeting again and hope you come to the library then for some scary fun times!

Did You Know? - First Thanksgiving

 

San Elizario, which is just to the east of El Paso, was the site of of the real first Thanksgiving! Juan de Oñate held a Thanksgiving celebration there in 1598. The day of Thanksgiving was held after Oñate's expedition had gone 5 days without water in the Chihuahuan Desert. The grateful expedition members enjoyed meat and fish next to the Rio Grande.
